FBI Background Checks
Background checks backed by AFIS
Trusted by law enforcement and the criminal justice system
FBI Background Checks are the only background checks backed by the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).
Run by the FBI, AFIS is the only consolidated database of US citizens in the world.
An FBI Background Check is a comprehensive report, including information about a person’s:
- Criminal history: Arrest and conviction history, traffic violations, and parking tickets
- Identification: Full legal name, including aliases or former names
- Civil records: Financial judgments, such as bankruptcies or tax liens
- Employment history: Previous employers, including job titles and dates of employment
- Education verification: Degrees obtained, including institutions and dates of graduation
- Fingerprint check: Run against the FBI’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) and against the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database
- Watchlist databases: Sex offender and terrorist watchlist databases
Making these reports the most reliable and accurate background check available.
FAQs
How long does it take to get an FBI Background Check
Applying for an FBI Background Check traditionally involved submitting physical fingerprint cards to the FBI, which can take 8-12 weeks for processing.
However, our advanced LiveScan technology allows for electronic submission, providing results in as little as 48 hours.
What happens if information on my background check is incorrect?
- You can contact the agency or agencies that originally submitted the information to the FBI. If the incorrect information is from a federal law enforcement agency, court, or criminal justice agency, you can contact that specific agency and ask them to send the FBI updated information
- You can send a challenge to the FBI’s CJIS Division.
Is electronic submission for an FBI Background Check available for everyone?
No. Electronic FBI Submissions are only available for individuals who are United States Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders).
If you are not a US citizen or Resident, you must submit hard copy fingerprint cards directly to the FBI.
