FAQs

How long does it take to get an FBI Background Check

Applying for an FBI Background Check traditionally involved submitting physical fingerprint cards to the FBI, which can take 8-12 weeks for processing.

However, our advanced LiveScan technology allows for electronic submission, providing results in as little as 48 hours.

What happens if information on my background check is incorrect?
If your background check contains incorrect or incomplete information, you have two options to request a correction:
  1. You can contact the agency or agencies that originally submitted the information to the FBI. If the incorrect information is from a federal law enforcement agency, court, or criminal justice agency, you can contact that specific agency and ask them to send the FBI updated information
  2. You can send a challenge to the FBI’s CJIS Division.
Is electronic submission for an FBI Background Check available for everyone?

No. Electronic FBI Submissions are only available for individuals who are United States Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders).

If you are not a US citizen or Resident, you must submit hard copy fingerprint cards directly to the FBI.
